The Benchmark offers clothing and equipment for Backpacking, Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Camping, Hiking and Adventure Travel. The Outdoors, get into it, Healthy for Life. The lure of Grand Canyon and the freedom of weekends as a college student offered great adventures in, the then new, outdoor activities called backpacking and rock climbing. Graduating from Northern Arizona University class of 1969 sent me off to the work world of public school educator.

What better opportunity to get young people involved in the earth and outdoor adventure. Fifteen months later The Benchmark opened its doors October of 1970 in Tucson Arizona. Now, here we are, in the Great State of Idaho and marking the start of our 41st year. The Benchmark is locally owned and still fitting boots and packs and selling the great idea of self propelled outdoor adventure.
